The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, congratulated the President-elect of the Republic of Guinea, General Mamadi Doumbouya, who was declared the winner in the first round of the presidential election with 86.72% of the vote. The Supreme Court confirmed the final results on January 4, 2026.

In his statement, the President of the Commission commended the maturity of the Guinean people, who expressed their choice peacefully and calmly. According to him, this attitude reflects a genuine sense of ownership of the electoral process by the citizens.

Mahamoud Ali Youssouf also paid tribute to the various stakeholders in the election, including election management bodies, candidates, political parties, coalitions, the government, civil society organizations, and technical and financial partners. He emphasized their sense of responsibility and commitment, which enabled the election to be conducted in accordance with international standards and the national legal framework.

The Chairperson of the Commission reaffirmed the African Union's readiness to support Guinea in its return to constitutional order, the consolidation of democracy and the rule of law, as well as in strengthening national unity and stability, essential conditions for sustainable development.

Taking into account the progress made since the transition began in 2021, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf urged the African Union and the international community to assess the country's situation and consider lifting the sanctions imposed upon it. He believes this measure would facilitate the implementation of the roadmap for the rebuilding and modernization of the state for the benefit of the Guinean people.

Finally, he called on all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and consultation, and to use legal channels to resolve any disputes. He stressed the importance of completing the political process by holding inclusive and peaceful legislative, senatorial, and local elections.
