Violences faites aux femmes : L’État doit agir maintenant (Thierno Alassane Sall)

"In our country, violence against women has reached an alarming level. Murders, rapes, physical and psychological assaults..." This heartfelt plea comes from the honorable deputy Thierno Alassane Sall.

For the president of the Republic of Values/Réewum Ngor (RDV) party, "these barbaric acts are multiplying and gradually becoming a sinister commonplace in everyday life. Each tragedy is a shattered life and a wound inflicted on society as a whole."

For the parliamentarian, it is time for "the authorities to take full measure of this situation and act with the firmness and speed required by the emergency", because "inaction and silence are no longer options".

The former Minister of Energy reiterates that "the State has a responsibility to protect women by implementing, without delay, a genuine national plan to combat this violence. This plan must include the acceleration of legal proceedings and the application of exemplary sanctions against perpetrators. It must offer real protection to survivors, through the establishment of a dedicated toll-free number and the creation of secure reception centers, equipped with sufficient human, financial, and logistical resources."

In the eyes of TAS, "prevention is just as essential. A national training and awareness program must be implemented in schools, relayed by the media and supported by communities (through the Bàjjenu Gox, religious and community leaders, and ASCs) in order to deconstruct violent behavior and promote a culture of respect."

Thierno Alassane Sall also believes that "security forces must be fully mobilized, with specialized units capable of listening to, supporting, and effectively protecting victims." And that "regular monitoring, combined with the publication of reliable data on the extent of the violence and the responses provided, is essential to ensure accountability in public action."

The MP emphasizes that "no country can claim to be developing when half of its population lives in permanent fear and insecurity."
