Bilan définitif du Magal: 33 morts dont 29 dans des accidents routiers
The detachment of the National Fire Brigade mobilized for the security and medical coverage of the 131st anniversary of the Grand Magal of Touba has made public its final report.
In total, 679 interventions were recorded by the fire brigade teams, involving 1,401 victims, including sadly 33 deaths. These figures demonstrate the intensity of the operations carried out by the emergency services during this busy period.
Traffic accidents, the main safety challenge
Road traffic accidents are the leading cause of intervention, with 341 cases recorded across the entire system. These accidents resulted in 982 victims, of whom 953 were rescued and assisted. However, 29 people tragically lost their lives in these road accidents.
In terms of firefighting, the firefighters carried out 7 interventions, demonstrating their versatility in dealing with different types of emergencies.
The medical component also represented an important part of their mission with 571 patients having benefited from medical consultations on site, thus providing an essential local service to pilgrims.
A considerable logistical effort for water supply
One of the most remarkable aspects of this operation concerns the water supply to the population. The teams distributed an impressive volume of 2,685,000 liters of water for the benefit of pilgrims and residents of Touba and its surrounding areas.

This report, presented by Commander Yatma Dièye, head of the Information and Public Relations Division of the National Fire Brigade, highlights the commitment and professionalism of the teams mobilized for this event of national and international scope.
The Grand Magal of Touba, celebrating the departure into exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, founder of the Mouride brotherhood, remains one of the largest pilgrimages in sub-Saharan Africa.

Le musulman sénégalais est un être bizarre. Il est excessif en tout surtout quand il se dit mouride…
Je l'ai dit et le redis : le "maggal" de Touba est devenu de plus en plus accidentogène et mortifère. Et cela est inscrit de manière indélébile dans son ADN ! Pourquoi ne pas organiser des "maggal" régionaux avec la présence de dignitaires mourides et le gouverneur de région à chaque "maggal régional" ?
