Qualifications Coupe du monde – Zone Europe : L’Espagne cartonne, l’Allemagne laborieuse
Just like in Africa, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup is in full swing in Europe. Three days after beating Bulgaria 3-0, Spain put on another show of strength in Group E. Away to Istanbul, Lamine Yamal and his teammates thrashed Turkey 6-0, thanks in particular to a hat-trick from Mikel Merino (22nd, 45+2, 57th). In the same group, Georgia beat Bulgaria 3-0.
In Group J, Belgium also achieved a resounding victory, defeating Kazakhstan 6-0. Despite this victory, the Red Devils (10 points) remain second behind North Macedonia (11 points), who defeated Liechtenstein 3-0.
In Group A, Germany had a tough 3-1 win over Northern Ireland. The Germans opened the scoring through Serge Gnabry (7th minute), before being pegged back by Isaac Price (34th minute). After a tough fight, the Germans finally made the difference thanks to goals from Nadiem Amiri (69th minute) and Florian Wirtz (72nd minute, free kick). In this same group, Slovakia, which had surprised Germany (2-0) a few days ago, followed up with a second victory by defeating Luxembourg (1-0).
Finally, in Group G, the Netherlands won in Lithuania (3-2). A brace from Memphis Depay allowed the Dutch (10 pts) to take the lead in the group, tied with Poland (2nd, 10 pts), victorious against Finland (3-1).
