Papa Toby Gaye, Director General of SENELEC, accompanied by a large delegation, inspected the system put in place in Touba to ensure optimal power supply during the Grand Magal. Received by the General Caliph of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, and his spokesperson, Serigne Bassirou Mbacké Abdou Khadr, he was warmly thanked for SENELEC's efforts, which were praised by religious authorities.

All CRD commitments honored

"As is customary for religious events, particularly the Magal, we came to report on the progress of the work. Five months ago, under the directives of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the government and our supervisory minister, we made commitments, all of which have been fulfilled," declared Papa Toby Gaye.

A new post in Ndindy to secure the power supply

Five months ago, the Director General presented the Caliph with a forward-looking vision for Touba. "We have launched work, including five new departures from the Ndindy substation, named Mohammed Falilou Mbacké and inaugurated last year," he explained. This substation strengthens the network's resilience: "Previously, Touba depended on the Touba 1 substation. With the increase in demand, the Ndindy substation can now support the entire city in the event of a failure of Touba 1, thanks to a technical redundancy called N-1."

A 140 km extension of the low-voltage network

Papa Toby Gaye announced the construction of 140 km of low-voltage network to improve the electricity supply to the religious city, highlighting the scale of the investments made by SENELEC.

Innovation: reusable mobile workstations

"A major innovation is deploying mobile substations to support the electrical load during the Magal. After the event, these substations will be redeployed elsewhere," he explained. This approach optimizes investments: "This equipment doesn't remain static. It can be reused for other events, such as in Tivaouane."

This visit illustrates SENELEC's commitment to supporting major religious events in Senegal and improving the electrical infrastructure of holy cities. Touba authorities expressed satisfaction with the efforts made to ensure a Magal without power outages.
