ONU : Coly Seck élu président de la Quatrième Commission de l’Assemblée générale
Coly Seck was elected on Tuesday, June 2nd, in New York, as president of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly for its next session. The election of the Senegalese ambassador took place at the conclusion of the 85th plenary session of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
In a message relayed by the Permanent Mission of Senegal to the United Nations, the Senegalese diplomat expressed his gratitude and said he was determined to serve the organization "to the best of his ability" during his term.
The Fourth Committee, also known as the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, is one of the main committees of the General Assembly. It examines, in particular, issues related to peacekeeping operations, decolonization, public information, and several political matters on the United Nations agenda.
Coly Seck's election comes a few months after Senegal's reappointment as chair of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, a position also held by the Senegalese diplomat. He has represented Senegal at the United Nations in New York since January 2025.
Previously, he served as Senegal's permanent representative in Geneva and chaired the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2019.
