Tivaouane : Rappel à Dieu de Sokhna Aminata Sy, dernière fille vivante de Serigne Babacar Sy
It was in the Khalkhouss cemetery of Tivaouane, where her late husband, Serigne Mounirou Sarr, and several emblematic figures of the Tidiane brotherhood rest, that Sokhna Aminata Sy Khalifa, the last daughter who was still alive of Cheikhal Seydi Khalifa Ababacar Sy (Rta), called back to God on Sunday, at the age of 95, was buried on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The removal of the deceased's body took place, in accordance with her wishes, at the Zawiya Serigne Babacar Sy, in an atmosphere of profound religious fervor. The funeral prayer was led by Serigne Mansour Lô, in the presence of, among others, Serigne Babacar Sy Abdou "Ndiol Fouta", Serigne Mansour Sy Dabakh and Serigne Cheikh Tidiane Sy Dabakh, as well as a vast crowd of faithful who came from all corners of the country to accompany the granddaughter of Mame Maodo Malick to her final resting place.
A respected figure in the maraboutic family of Tivaouane, the last survivor of the direct descendants of Serigne Babacar Sy, the first Khalif of Cheikhal Seydi El Hadji Malick Sy (Rta), was a woman of faith, heir to a centuries-old spiritual tradition, with a life exclusively devoted to Sharia, the Sunna of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and the Tidjaniyya.
A pious and dignified woman, deeply devoted to the spiritual legacy of Serigne Babacar Sy, of which she was one of the most illustrious guardians. Her passing is perceived as “a great loss for the family of Mame Maodo and the entire Tidiane community.”
