TOTO, MEMBRE DE WAFLASH : "Le maire de Thiès est peu engagé dans la dynamique artistique locale"
Following the release of the young singer Pape Mbaye, Toto, a member of the group Waflash, drove the point home by criticizing the attitude of the mayor of Thiès, Babacar Diop, towards local artists, particularly in connection with the end-of-year events.
An emblematic figure of Thiès music, the guitarist of singer Ma Sané believes that local artists should be given priority during the end-of-year concerts organized in Thiès.
"We cannot prevent artists from other cities from coming to Thiès, but local youth should be given preference. There are quality talents from Thiès such as Pape Mbaye, Sidy Ka, Ramish, Chifa, etc., who deserve to be headliners," said Toto.
For him, promoting these young people would not only enhance local music but also support the creative economy. "These events are opportunities to promote local music. It will allow young talents from Thiès to earn some money to develop their projects. It's all well and good to beautify the city, but the economy of Thiès is not limited to that," he added.
Toto finds the mayor inaccessible, absent from major cultural events and not very involved in the local artistic scene.
He calls for closer collaboration between the town hall and cultural players in Thiès for a genuine development of local culture.
The Thiès Managers Association also criticized Babacar Diop's attitude.
