Axe Dakar – Nouakchott : Le Sénégal et la Mauritanie renforcent leur alliance stratégique sur la sécurité et la mobilité

Military cooperation between Senegal and Mauritania, described as exemplary by both parties, is about to enter a new phase. It will now be extended to all defense and security forces in order to better address the common security challenges facing the sub-region.

Regarding mobility, Dakar and Nouakchott have committed to ensuring the full implementation of the agreement concerning the conditions of entry, stay, and settlement for nationals of both countries. To guarantee the effectiveness of these measures, a joint monitoring committee will be officially established by February 2026.

At the regional and international level, the two countries reaffirmed a strong convergence of views on several major issues. These include the fight against climate change, land degradation, and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The Prime Ministers agreed to further harmonize the positions of Senegal and Mauritania within international organizations, particularly the African Union and the United Nations. This synergy aims to promote concerted and more effective responses to global crises.

During his stay in Dakar, the Mauritanian Prime Minister, El Moctar Ould Djay, will be received in audience by the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. He will convey a message of friendship, fraternity, and solidarity from his counterpart, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

The Mauritanian Prime Minister welcomed the successful discussions and expressed his gratitude to the Senegalese authorities for the warm welcome extended to his delegation. Attention is now focused on the 14th session of the Joint High Commission for Cooperation, to be held in Dakar in 2026, which is expected to consolidate and further strengthen the positive momentum in bilateral relations.
