Homosexualité : La confidence d'Ousmane Sonko sur son entretien avec un ambassadeur étranger
The Prime Minister denounced the impatience and excesses linked to easy enrichment, while reaffirming the primacy of national laws in the face of external pressures, particularly on sensitive social issues. At the closing of National Youth Week, the Prime Minister addressed the issue of homosexuality. This comes in the context of Senegal preparing to host athletes from around the world for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Consequently, the prospect of a crackdown on homosexuals is causing concern among some foreign authorities.
Ousmane Sonko then recounted an exchange with a foreign ambassador who had come to express his concerns regarding the tightening of Senegalese legislation on homosexuality. According to Sonko, the diplomat emphasized the legality of this practice in his own country.
“He told me that, in his country, this practice is legal. He also asked me about the potential risks for athletes. I replied that any athlete coming solely to practice their sport is welcome and can freely pursue their activity. However, if someone comes for reasons other than sport, the law of the country will apply to them, as it applies to everyone,” he explained.
In his address, he called on young people to remain faithful to the country's religious and cultural values. "This trend that some are trying to impose on us today is a cancer for society. It is based on envy and impatience, as well as on a theory that leads people to believe that money is not earned through work, but rather through dubious practices. Many people who have become involved in this phenomenon, which I do not wish to name, have done so for the lure of profit and through questionable practices. I urge you to be worthy and proud representatives of our religious and cultural identity," the Prime Minister declared.
