Visite à Dakar : El Moctar Ould Djay réaffirme « un partenariat stratégique fondé sur la confiance et la prospérité partagée »

On an official visit to Senegal this Thursday, the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania reaffirmed in Dakar "the strength and depth of the strategic partnership between Nouakchott and Dakar, based on mutual trust, ongoing consultation and a common vision of development and stability in cross-border areas."

Received by his Senegalese counterpart, Ousmane Sonko, the Mauritanian head of government placed this visit in line with "the guidelines set by Presidents Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, determined to strengthen bilateral cooperation rooted in ancient historical, geographical, cultural and human ties".

"This visit reflects the desire of our two heads of state to continue strengthening the strategic partnership between our two countries," said the Mauritanian Prime Minister, emphasizing the quality of the fraternal relations that unite the two peoples of Senegal and Mauritania.

The discussions between the two delegations provided an opportunity to review progress made in several key areas of cooperation, including border security, energy, transport, fisheries, livestock, and the joint management of natural resources. The Mauritanian Prime Minister welcomed the progress achieved, while emphasizing the need to set new common objectives for the coming period.

He also "highlighted the increase in high-level visits between Nouakchott and Dakar, which he considers a strong political signal of the determination of both governments to consolidate their partnership and to establish it in a sustainable dynamic."

At the heart of the discussions, the management of cross-border areas occupied a central place. The Mauritanian Prime Minister stressed "the importance of moving beyond a strictly national approach to prioritize an integrated vision of these areas, which are destined to become hubs of shared prosperity rather than spaces of competition or tension."

These territories, rich in agricultural, fishing, mining, and energy potential, must, according to him, be managed in a coordinated manner, through the joint involvement of public and private stakeholders from both countries. The Mauritanian Prime Minister welcomed the concrete progress made in recent months, particularly the agreements facilitating the settlement of populations on both sides of the border, the lifting of certain administrative constraints, and the renewal of fishing agreements. He considers these measures decisive steps toward a more humane and seamless integration between the two countries. The Mauritanian Prime Minister reaffirmed his country's willingness to further deepen cooperation with Senegal, in a spirit of openness and regional solidarity.
