Gamou 2025 : Tivaouane prône l’unité et la cohésion pour un Sénégal plus fort
The official ceremony of the 2025 edition of the annual Gamou of Tivaouane, where the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye was represented by a strong government delegation led by the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Lieutenant General Jean-Baptiste Tine, served as a platform for the authorities in general, to highlight this year's theme: "Celebrating the Mawlid for a more cohesive, supportive and united society", following the message of the General Caliph of the Tidianes, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, intended for the Muslim community of Senegal, the disciples of the Tijaniyya, from here and elsewhere, and the highest authorities of the State of Senegal.
The religious authorities of Tivaouane returned to the choice of the theme dictated by the alarming observation of a "fractured human society, where living together and the peaceful coexistence of communities have become stations of the cross."
The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Jean-Baptiste Tine, transmitting the message of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, to Khalife Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, wanted to be precise: "The Head of State is very sensitive to the concerns of this holy city."
He also continued: "The State has made a lot of efforts for the success of this Gamou and has shown itself to be particularly attentive to the concerns of the populations of the holy city. Our thoughts go out to the victims of the floods and we reaffirm that the President of the Republic is very sensitive and attentive to the difficulties they are going through."
Serigne Mansour Sy Dabakh, representative of the General Caliph of Tidianes, called on the Senegalese to "overcome certain perceptions, by placing humility at the heart of all actions. Senegal is stronger... We must serve our country with humility and not serve ourselves." He invited them to become fully involved in building the country. The religious leader especially emphasized the importance of understanding and social cohesion, to the detriment of "purely and exclusively personal interests."
Tivaouane expressed his gratitude to the government delegation for its presence and its continued support for this tradition. This was an opportunity for the Sy family of Mame Maodo to pay special tribute to the state authorities for having honored all the commitments made.
