Tabaski à Ziguinchor : Les imams appellent à un retour aux fondamentaux de l’islam
Part of the Muslim community in Ziguinchor performed the Tabaski prayer on May 27, 2026. The imams' sermons called for a return to fundamental principles. Imam Abdoul Hamid Diédhiou reminded the congregation that "the believer must worship, obey, and place their hope in Allah, the Almighty," while Imam Youssou Diamban urged the faithful to "be persevering in life, in their religious practice, and in the face of trials."
These words, echoing the teachings of the Quran, placed faith and submission to Allah at the heart of the celebration. The imams also emphasized the horizontal relationship with parents, stressing the respect and obedience owed to them, especially as they age. "We must submit entirely to our parents, especially when they tell us to do something good," Imam Abdoul Hamid Diédhiou emphasized, reminding everyone that obedience to parents is an essential component of the Muslim faith.
Youth was a central theme in the sermons. Imams warned against the pitfalls of ill-gotten gains and promises of easy wealth. "To have anything, you have to work and live by the sweat of your brow," Imam Abdoul Hamid Diédhiou cautioned. Imam Youssou Diamban, for his part, emphasized the importance of a "well-guided, well-educated" youth, the key to a promising future for the nation. These appeals converge on the same imperative: to cultivate a strong generation, driven by unwavering faith and a keen sense of social responsibility.
