In preparation for the 68th edition of the Magal of Gade Yelle, scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, in the department of Tivaouane, the government has begun preparations to ensure the smooth running of this major religious event. The Ministry of the Interior, through the governor of the Thiès region and the prefect of Tivaouane, has initiated initial consultations with the relevant stakeholders.

A Regional Development Committee (CRD) meeting was held this Wednesday, January 7, 2025, at the Thiès Governorate building, in the presence of the Magal organizing committee, administrative, technical, and local authorities. Discussions focused primarily on the supply of drinking water and electricity, security, and the condition of the roads leading to the event site. This meeting marks the official start of state support for one of the most important religious events in the Thiès region, which draws thousands of pilgrims each year.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of the organizing committee, Serigne Khadim Amar, praised the authorities' commitment to the success of the Magal, which this year is themed "Islam and Respect for Authority." He also commended the project to complete the Ngaye–Pékesse–Thilmakha road, included in the initial 2026 budget law, thanking President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko for this initiative.

For his part, the deputy governor of Thiès, Ababacar Sadikh Niang, reaffirmed the state's commitment to supporting the organizing committee in all areas. He also urged pilgrims to strictly adhere to hygiene rules in order to prevent the spread of certain diseases.

The Magal of Gade Yelle remains a flagship event, but also a true economic and cultural platform. For sixty-eight years, it has celebrated the history and spiritual heritage of illustrious ancestors, while bringing together thousands of faithful from various countries each year.
