Educational authorities in Ziguinchor, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, officially launched school sports activities in the region. This launch is directly aligned with preparations for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG Dakar 2026). During the event, the authorities emphasized the importance of active participation in sports in all schools and educational institutions.

The Ziguinchor regional education inspector, Papa Gorgui Ndiaye, sees these competitions as a valuable opportunity for exchange. The chosen theme, "School Sport as a Breeding Ground for the Dakar 2026 Olympic Games," underscores the importance of the school system in this global event. "Schools must not be left behind in this major sporting event. We must send our students, but also inform and raise awareness about the significance of this event so that they can give it the necessary importance," he stated.

For his part, the regional director of Youth and Sports, Ibrahima Diba, reiterated that school sports are the true "breeding ground" of Senegalese sport. He emphasized that many prominent athletes honed their skills within the Union of School and University Sports Associations (UASSU).

Returning to the relevance of the theme, Ibrahima Diba emphasized the historic nature of the event, which Africa will be hosting for the first time. “It is crucial to prepare our youth for this major event. We hope that young people will be sufficiently informed to meet, alongside the organizers, the challenges of participation and organization. The State of Senegal is counting on everyone's mobilization,” he declared.

"Starting is a good thing, but the ultimate goal is effective participation in every school.
