Libye : Aliou Cissé annoncé sur le banc d'une autre sélection
Aliou Cissé, who has been in his position since March 2025, is reportedly on the verge of leaving Libya for another destination. The Senegalese coach's contract with the Libyan national team runs until 2027, but it appears to be close to being shortened. AS reports in its Thursday edition that the former Lions coach has filed a complaint with FIFA seeking to terminate his contract with his employer, who owes him eight months' salary.
The newspaper claims that Cissé's departure is only a matter of days. This is good news for Equatorial Guinea, which is reportedly keen to sign the 2021 African champion. "Under the leadership of Juan Micha [the current national coach]," notes L'AS, "Equatorial Guinea has gone from being a likeable outsider to a 'giant killer.' But to take the final step—a continental title or a historic qualification for the World Cup—the country's sporting authorities believe they need a global profile. Aliou Cissé brings with him a winning mentality and, above all, a defensive rigor that made Senegal an impregnable fortress for nine years."
Moreover, the same source points out, the Equatorial Guinean authorities hope to pull off a major PR coup by signing the former Senegalese international: "It is to affirm to the world that Equatorial Guinea is now playing in the big leagues, capable of affording one of the most experienced coaches on the continent."
