Marseille took the reins of Ligue 1 by crushing Le Havre (6-2) 11 against 10 on Saturday for the 8th day of Ligue 1, and Lyon failed to rise to their level by losing to Nice (3-2).

By conceding a spectacular draw against Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes on Friday evening (3-3), Paris Saint-Germain had given their pursuers a golden opportunity to take the lead in the standings. This was particularly tempting for OM, who were hosting bottom-of-the-table Le Havre at the Vélodrome.

And yet... it was Le Havre's Yassine Kechta who opened the scoring in the middle of the first half, capitalizing on a fine start. But a penalty, along with a red card given to Gautier Lloris for handball while in the last defender position, sank the Normans.

Mason Greenwood, for his part, wasted no time in not only converting the penalty with composure, but also scoring four goals in total with his usual style.

Frenchman Robinio Vaz, 18, thought he had sealed the score, but Abdoulaye Touré lit a firecracker on the volley to reduce it (5-2), and Amir Murillo added to Marseille's festivities (6-2). OM are first with 18 points, ahead of Paris (17), Strasbourg (16) and Lyon (15).

For Lyon, it was a little more complicated on paper with this trip to Nice and this was confirmed with a logical 3-2 defeat. A brace from Pavel Sulc only reacted to Nice's realism, with goals from Melvin Bard, Sofiane Diop and Hicham Boudaoui. Franck Haise's team recorded a welcome third victory and moved up to 8th place (11 points).

Another top-of-the-table team, Monaco, was expected to kick off the Sébastien Pocognoli era, called up after Adi Hütter's dismissal. But in Angers, in a rather lackluster match, the Red and Whites could only manage a 1-1 draw. Two substitutes, Folarin Balogun and Sidiki Chérif, scored. Monaco is fifth with 14 points, while SCO is second from last with six points, the same as Le Havre.
