Arrestation d'un de ses médecins dans l'affaire Pape Cheikh Diallo : Le CNTS rassure l'opinion publique
As exclusively reported by Seneweb, a doctor working at the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS) was arrested at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass (AIBD), as part of the execution of a judicial delegation issued by the investigating judge of the 1st chamber at the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court, in the Pape Cheikh Diallo and associates case.
In response to the public outcry over this arrest, the CNTS sought to reassure the population on Friday, April 3, 2026, through a press release.
The safety of blood products is not compromised
The institution reiterates that the safety of blood products in Senegal relies on rigorous, standardized protocols that are independent of individuals. It affirms that, at this stage, nothing calls into question the reliability of the national transfusion system.
The CNTS specifies that each unit of blood collected undergoes rigorous testing, particularly for HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis, in accordance with current standards. The stock management system is equipped with strict security measures.
Any blood bag showing even the slightest reactivity to an infectious agent is automatically rejected by the computer system and isolated for destruction. No unit of blood can be labeled "compliant" or released for distribution without electronic validation confirming its conformity by the quality control system.
The National Blood Transfusion Centre also has a traceability system that allows each bag of blood to be tracked from the donor to the recipient.
A call for responsibility and blood donation
The National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS) urges the public to act responsibly regarding the circulation of unverified information, which could undermine confidence in blood donation. The institution reaffirms its ongoing commitment to patient safety, the quality of blood products, and transparency in the management of the public transfusion service, emphasizing that the donation process is strictly regulated, secure, and risk-free for the donor. Finally, the center calls on the public to mobilize for blood donation, which it describes as an essential act of solidarity for the healthcare system.
The institution concludes with this powerful message: "Donating blood remains a safe, voluntary and essential act to save lives."
