Dubaï-Dakar : les bijoux en or d’une valeur de 291 millions F CFA n’ont rapporté que… 28 millions, la surprenante explication du chef d’entreprise escroc
SM Niasse, a business owner, is in police custody at the Dakar Urban Security (SU) headquarters. He is the subject of a complaint for breach of trust filed by Bafleh Jewellery LLC, a company based in Dubai. Bafleh Jewellery LLC is represented by its accountant. According to the newspaper Libération, which broke the story, the accountant claims that the accused defrauded his company. "The company entrusted him with gold jewelry worth 291,875,385 CFA francs, with the understanding that he would sell it and buy raw gold to send to Bafleh," the complainant explained, as reported by the newspaper.
SM Niasse did not respect the agreement after selling the jewelry. "Requested several times, he only deigned to hand over a 326.69 gram raw gold ingot valued at 28,912,320 CFA francs," reports the daily newspaper.
When questioned by investigators, the businessman admitted to the facts and stated that he had reinvested the proceeds from the sale in his business. Libération reports that Niasse pledged to repay the amount owed, at a rate of 30 million CFA francs per quarter starting in April. This proposal was rejected by the Dubai-based company, which, according to the newspaper, is demanding immediate payment of the remaining balance or the return of the remaining gold.
