Kafountine : 17 candidats à l’émigration irrégulière interceptés à Abéné
On the night of Saturday, August 30 to Sunday, August 31, 2025, the Kafountine gendarmerie brigade arrested 17 would-be illegal immigrants in a camp in the village of Abéné, in the commune of Kafountine, in the department of Bignona. This operation was triggered by information indicating the presence of several suspicious individuals in a hotel reception.
Among the 17 people arrested were 11 Senegalese, 3 Gambians, and 1 Bissau-Guinean, as well as 2 Senegalese accomplices and 1 Bissau-Guinean accomplice. This intervention follows another large-scale operation carried out a few days earlier, in which 34 would-be illegal immigrants were apprehended by the same brigade. In one week, a total of 51 people were arrested in the Kafountine area for attempted illegal emigration. Those arrested are currently in custody at the Kafountine gendarmerie brigade, awaiting further legal proceedings.
These arrests are part of the Senegalese authorities' efforts to combat illegal immigration, a persistent phenomenon in this border region popular with couriers due to its proximity to Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
