Kédougou : Le département de Saraya coupé du reste du pays par la grève des transporteurs
In southeastern Senegal, the department of Saraya is bearing the brunt of the repercussions of the 72-hour strike called by transport workers. Since the start of the strike, the movement of people has been severely disrupted and economic activity has slowed, plunging the population into an increasingly precarious situation.
Upon arrival in the region, the situation is clear. While Senegal Dem Dikk buses continue to provide partial service as far as Kédougou, the rest of the journey to the towns and villages in the department is a real ordeal. Due to a lack of available vehicles, many travelers find themselves stranded, forced to resort to makeshift solutions like motorcycles or tricycles to reach their destinations.
This disruption to transportation is having a significant impact on the daily lives of residents. Shopkeepers, on the front lines, are struggling to obtain supplies. In the markets, stalls are gradually emptying, with goods remaining stuck due to a lack of logistics. This situation is hindering trade and exacerbating the slowdown in economic activity in this already isolated area.
On the ground, the anxiety is palpable. "I want to join my family in Tambacounda, but there are no vehicles available between Kédougou and Tambacounda. I contacted the Sénégal Dem Dikk agency: all the buses are full until Sunday," testifies a traveler encountered waiting by the side of the road.
In this region, where most consumer goods come from the interior of the country, the continuation of the strike could worsen the situation. Residents fear shortages of basic necessities, coupled with price increases in the coming days.
Adding to these difficulties is a further constraint: a diesel shortage that has been observed for several days. This lack of fuel further complicates travel and limits the few available alternatives.
Faced with this situation, Saraya now appears as one of the areas most vulnerable to the impact of this strike. Between isolation, economic slowdown, and growing anxieties, residents hope for a swift return to normalcy to avoid a deeper crisis.
