As part of the fight against crime, the Kolda territorial brigade carried out an operation on Friday, February 13, 2026, which led to the dismantling of a counterfeiting network and the arrest of two individuals.

The accused are being prosecuted for criminal conspiracy, possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes that are legal tender in Senegal.

The initial operation, launched on February 13, allowed the police to apprehend the first two suspects.

They are accused of having formed an organized network for the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit currency within the national territory.

The following day, Saturday, February 14, 2026, the gendarmes, supported by the surveillance and intervention squadron, carried out a search at the home of the accused in the town of Salikégné.

This decisive intervention led to the seizure of a considerable sum of 500,000 CFA francs in counterfeit banknotes, consisting mainly of 500 CFA franc notes.

During the same operation, two other individuals were apprehended, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to four. One of them was the subject of an active search for the dissemination of personal data, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye, head of the Communication and Public Relations Division of the National Gendarmerie.

The investigation also revealed the use of counterfeit banknotes in large-scale commercial transactions.

On the instructions of the public prosecutor, two stores were sealed off. These premises contained more than 10 tons of peanut sacks and 2.5 tons of sesame, goods acquired using counterfeit banknotes.

The investigation continues to identify any accomplices and determine the exact extent of the activities of this counterfeiting network.
