On May 12, 2026, the Ross Béthio local brigade intercepted, during a roadside check, a trader in a public transport vehicle in possession of 1,500 rounds of 12 mm caliber ammunition without administrative authorization.

The suspect, identified by the initials AA Soumaré, aged 60, had left Dakar heading towards Aéré Lao when he came across a police checkpoint.

When questioned by investigators about the origin and destination of these munitions, he tried to make people believe that he had bought them for his personal use.

Brought before the Saint-Louis High Court on Friday for possessing ammunition without authorization, the merchant will be tried in summary proceedings, according to Seneweb sources. He will spend his first night in jail.
