Police officers from the Sédhiou Regional Narcotics Brigade (BRS), under the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), seized a large shipment of cannabis weighing 114 kg during the night of Sunday, May 17th to Monday, May 18th, 2026, following a 15-kilometer chase on National Route 4. One suspect was arrested, and his accomplice is actively being sought, according to Seneweb sources.

It all began with a tip from an anonymous source, indicating a possible departure of cannabis traffickers from North Sindian, with the Kabada area as their destination. Based on this information, the Sédhiou BRS (Brigade de Recherche et de Surveillance - Research and Surveillance Brigade) deployed a reinforced surveillance operation in the Bounkiling department on the morning of Sunday, May 17, 2026.

In the early hours of Monday morning, around 2:00 AM, the investigators' vigilance paid off. Two motorcycles traveled along National Route 4 near Diacounda, carrying sisal bags whose appearance left no doubt as to their contents. The officers immediately gave chase.

After a chase of nearly fifteen kilometers, the police managed to intercept one of the drivers. The second, refusing to comply, abandoned his cargo and fled.

The operation yielded significant results. Officers seized 52 kg of cannabis and his motorcycle from the arrested suspect. At the location where the second trafficker abandoned his merchandise, an additional 62 kg were recovered, along with his motorcycle. The total weight of the seized drugs, of the so-called "green" variety, reached 114 kg.

The arrested suspect has been formally identified as AB, born in 2008, a farmer by profession, residing in Tankoron, single, and the father of one child. He has been taken into custody for conspiracy, possession, and domestic drug trafficking. His accomplice, who caused the escape, is the subject of an active manhunt.
