Three suspected motorcycle thieves were arrested by police officers from the Dieuppeul district police station. Caught by CCTV footage and the GPS tracking system installed on the motorcycle, they were brought before the prosecutor's office on Tuesday.
It all began when A. Ngom, who lived in Liberté 5, filed a complaint at the Dieuppeul police station. He stated that his Beverly 300 motorcycle, equipped with a GPS system, had been stolen very early in the morning from his home. Using the GPS installed on the vehicle, the victim was able to locate his motorcycle in a house in Bene Tally, precisely at the home of carpenter B. Diakhaté, where the police went. Their raid led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of 19-year-old B. Diakhaté.
Taken to the police station and briefly interrogated, the accused broke down and revealed the identity of his accomplices: A. Kandé, a 20-year-old tailor living in Bene Tally, and AL Ba, a 21-year-old shopkeeper living in Niary Tally. The latter were also arrested by investigators. All three alleged thieves were caught by the CCTV footage installed at the victim's home.
Faced with this overwhelming evidence, they fully admitted the charges against them. They were then brought before the Dakar High Court on Tuesday for criminal conspiracy and gang robbery committed at night with the use of rolling stock.
