Vol d'un pneu pour acheter à manger : Deux apprentis chauffeurs condamnés par le tribunal de Thiès
Two apprentice drivers, L. Niang and K. Ndiaye, appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses for stealing a tire belonging to Mr. Sankaré. The incident occurred in Keur Mor Ndiaye.
According to the case file, the defendants stole the tire with the intention of reselling it. They sold it to Mr. Diakhaté for 5,000 CFA francs. They were arrested and subsequently remanded in custody.
In court, L. Niang and K. Ndiaye admitted to the charges against them. They explained their actions by citing a situation of food insecurity. "We stole this tire to resell it in order to buy food. We were hungry. This is the first time we have committed such an act. We acknowledge our mistake and apologize," they stated.
Charged with receiving stolen goods, Mr. Diakhaté, for his part, denied any knowledge of the fraudulent origin of the item. "I didn't know the tire came from a theft. It was the first time they had sold me one," he confided.
But the public prosecutor requested the application of the law.
After deliberation, the judge acquitted Mr. Diakhaté, then declared the two apprentice drivers guilty of theft and sentenced them to two years suspended.
