Campagne arachidière : Mamadou Aliou Diallo Appelle à l’optimisme et au dialogue pour soutenir les producteurs
The Senegalese peanut season opens this year amid hopes for recovery and persistent concerns among producers. Mamadou Aliou Diallo, a member of the Diomaye Président coalition's communications task force and a guest on iRadio's Sunday Jury program, believes the context is promising for the sector if all stakeholders demonstrate responsibility and engage in dialogue.
“Senegal is evolving in a healthy and favorable environment under the leadership of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The peanut campaign can fully succeed if producers, authorities and partners communicate and work together,” he said.
According to Mr. Diallo, the authorities have issued firm instructions to regulate marketing and support for producers, in order to guarantee fair prices and a secure supply for national oil mills. "The priority is to protect the producer and develop the sector locally. Dialogue and consultation are essential so that everyone can find their place," he added. For Mr. Diallo, the success of the campaign will depend above all on organization, transparency, and rigorous monitoring of the commitments made by the State.
Furthermore, he warns of the current temptation to sell peanuts at low prices, linked to the difficult lean season. "The harvest is like gold. The problem is the social emergency that is pushing some to sell at rock-bottom prices. Farmers need financial support to allow them to preserve their production."
He nevertheless commends the work of the Minister of Agriculture Mabouba Diagne, whom he credits with significant progress towards food sovereignty, with production estimated at nearly 900,000 tonnes.
