Let me confess, even your favorite columnist, Betu Wurus, put down his mouse and pen to admire the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games mascot. Yes, we too know how to appreciate effort and excellence, especially when they offer us a little national respite. For 48 hours, we forgot about Madiambal and the endless political debates. We simply smiled. Because this stylish little creature, designed by a young Senegalese woman, is the perfect stress reliever. The real victory here belongs to unfiltered youth!
We were almost convinced that the ultimate ambition of our young people was to go viral on TikTok.
We used to think that talent was simply a matter of stringing together choreographies to mask boredom.
And just like that! Two of our daughters are redefining the country's global symbol. They weren't glued to their phones chasing fleeting likes. They were focused, one on her drawing board, the other on the name, delivering a lesson in commitment and raw talent. They prove that Senegal is, above all, a generation that creates content for the world, not just a generation that consumes it.
And then, the name, Ayo, is disarmingly simple.
This is the ultimate slap in the face to the consulting firms who would have sold us a pompous acronym for millions of CFA francs. But alas, the respite was short-lived. Duty calls. Because even Ayo's joy can't mask our daily reality! That's precisely where we fall back into our old habits. We need to laugh at everything, especially what's wrong.
And for that, you need unusual news! So, where do we stand on the absurd front? That's the soul of Senegal. One foot in global glory, the other in the top case. Recess is over, but the show goes on. Bravo to the two artists, but stay vigilant. In this country, even joy is precarious… because there will always be someone to spoil everything.

Betou doff tu devrais utiliser ! Loufi diar texte bi, Ne me dis (impératif négatif) pas que pour magnifier des jeunes ayant réalisé une chose aussi basique qu’une mascotte? Ça se voit que tu te contentes vraiment du peu! Dans d’autres pays on s’émoustille sur des choses mille fois plus techniques et scientifiques, avec des inventions à Djolof, en 2025, on magnifie une mascotte dénommée ‘Ayo Néné », mince « Ayo »? Niak diom! En outre, dans un texte qui part sur une généralisation absurde: les jeunes sénégalais passeraient du temps sur tik tok ou sur les réseaux sociaux à faire ou à penser aux futilités? Quelle absurdité! Batou doff, tu aurais pu magnifier ces 2 filles et Ayo sans les opposer à ceux de leur génération. Comparer ou opposer est satanique et malsain, manaam yëfu seytanela, en plus de ne pas être scientifique (dans le sens de la recherche scientifique).
