[Grain de sel] Diodio Glow Skin : Plus de candidats que la fonction publique? (Par Betu Wurus)
Forget the IMF and its macroeconomic reports. The only reliable indicator of the employment situation in Senegal this week is the queue outside Diodio Glow Skin's offices. Three days of recruitment announced, and it's chaos with thousands of young people jostling each other—more applicants than for the last entrance exam to the ENA (National School of Administration). While companies struggle to recruit a few hundred people for various positions, Diodio only has to wave a lipstick and a promise of visibility to mobilize a record crowd. But what are all these young people being offered? Careers in finance? A retirement savings plan? No. They're being offered the chance to be mouthpieces for the hype that promises a fortune as long as your ring light stays on. This endless queue isn't just a craze for beauty products. It's a national symptom.
This is the silent cry of a generation fed up with unpaid internships and unanswered CV submissions. Zero respect from HR, you lazy bunch. They no longer believe in patience, they believe in money. "Teew mou teew. Tek tégui." They're no longer aiming for an air-conditioned office in a suit; they just want a salary for their livelihood. Even if it's just a small fee, so be it. Diodio understood this quickly. She embodies this generation that knows that real power isn't necessarily received by email… but by click. Enough talk, next time the ANSD wants to gauge youth optimism, they should forget the official figures. They should simply look at the length of the queue for the next big influencer. That's the real barometer of the market.
