Alerte sur le kush : « Une drogue meurtrière aux effets dévastateurs », avertit le commissaire Adama Wélé
Commissioner Adama Wélé, head of the Dakar regional narcotics brigade, discussed the dismantling of an international kush trafficking network and the unprecedented seizure of 17 kg of the drug from China. This is the first time kush from Asia has been intercepted in Senegal.
What is kush?
According to the head of the BRS, a unit of the OCRTIS (Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking), kush is a synthetic drug obtained from mixtures of chemicals, dried leaves, and cannabis residue mixed with precursors such as fentanyl, tramadol, or formaldehyde. "Formaldehyde is a liquid that is actually used to preserve corpses in morgues," he explains.
Following tips from the suburbs, investigators raided the Grand-Mbao area where they dismantled an international drug trafficking network supplied by foreigners. The main suspect was arrested at his home with 57 grams of cannabis resin. A search of his residence uncovered nearly 2 kilograms of cannabis resin and 3 million CFA francs in proceeds from his illicit activities. He obtained his supplies from Guinea and Sierra Leone.
Thanks to forensic analysis, investigators intercepted a message announcing the arrival of a package from China. Working with the suspect, they seized 17 kg of kush, an unprecedented quantity. "This is the first time we've intercepted kush from an Asian country, particularly from China," the commissioner emphasized.
The investigation revealed that the main suspect was also processing kush. An impressive arsenal was seized: solvents, tramadol tablets, gloves, diverted cosmetic products, and packaging bags.
A third suspect, a Guinean national and supplier of precursors, was arrested on December 26, 2025 at the Autonomous Port of Dakar.
The three suspects are being prosecuted for conspiracy, importation, possession and processing of kush for trafficking purposes, as well as money laundering.
To put an end to it, Commissioner Wélé believes that "it requires a mobilization of everyone, first of all the State, the family, society, so that kush is eradicated. It is a drug with deadly, devastating effects that can lead to health and social problems. A country without kush is a country where we choose life."
The head of the Dakar BRS was speaking to the microphone of the National Police's Communication and Public Relations Division, under the direction of Commissioner Mamadou Diouf.

Le kush contient soit des nitazènes, des opioïdes de synthèse jusqu’à vingt-cinq fois plus forts que le fentanyl, soit du MDMB-4en-PINACA, un cannabinoïde synthétique neuf fois plus puissant que le THC. « Selon les tests, les deux substances ne sont que rarement mélangées », précise le rapport. Autrement dit, la caractéristique du kush est de contenir l’une ou l’autre substance. A ces psychoactifs s’ajoutent des feuilles de guimauve (léger psychoactif), de l’acétone, de la formaline (produit utilisé pour embaumer les morts) et parfois du tramadol.
