In response to a surge of videos circulating on social media showing pedestrians dangerously crossing highways in violation of safety rules, Autoroutes du Sénégal (ADS) has announced an emergency action plan to curb what it calls a "dangerous and unacceptable" phenomenon.
The company reiterates that "highways are zones where the speed limit is 110 km/h (68 mph). Any crossing on foot constitutes a serious violation of the Highway Code and Decree 2020-1786."
It emphasizes: "No time saved, however minimal, can justify risking your own life or the lives of others."
The emergency plan is based on three main measures:
