Qualifications Coupe du monde 2026 : Grosse frayeur de l’avion du Nigeria contraint à un atterrisage d'urgence

Returning from Luanda (Angola) after their 2-1 victory against Lesotho, as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Nigerian Super Eagles were the victims of an aerial incident that could have turned into a tragedy.

The Nigerian airline ValueJet plane, carrying the players and coaching staff, was forced to make an emergency landing just 25 minutes after takeoff. The cause was a significant crack in the cockpit windshield, which was spotted while the plane was flying at high altitude. Thanks to the crew's quick response, the plane was able to return safely to Luanda airport.

According to a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), no injuries were reported among the passengers.

However, this incident caused a delay in the program of the selection, which was due to reach the city of Uyo to face Benin next Tuesday.

Faced with this situation, Nigerian authorities, including the president's chief of staff and several ministers, immediately mobilized to charter a new aircraft from Lagos. The objective: to allow the Super Eagles to return to their base as quickly as possible to prepare for this decisive match against Benin, which could allow them to qualify for the World Cup, if they win.
