Macky Sall, l’Afrique au cœur ? Un peuple à dos (Par Abdoulaye Dieng, entrepreneur)
After the resounding failure of "Senegal at Heart," ignored by a people he had preferred to abandon as soon as he took power, Macky Sall returns to New York with "Africa at Heart." Having left in a hurry in an anticipated escape, he is now seeking to mask his record with a media stunt, claiming an international stature that, in any case, eludes him.
The staging is blatant. Putting himself forward alongside former leaders chosen from a catalogue, multiplying diplomatic posturing, masking a lackluster reign. But the Senegalese people are not fooled. They know Macky Sall's true legacy: the blockade of Casamance for political calculations, the boycott of Mali in defiance of African unity, and a bloody repression that cost the lives of dozens of young people. Can we claim to love Africa with such a legacy at the heart of our record?
He had inspired hope. He left fractures, debt, and despair. Defeated at the ballot box, he took refuge in Morocco in a carefully prepared castle, a symbol of a planned exile. Today, he parades in New York to divert attention from a damning record, even though the Court of Auditors, the IMF, and several independent audits have already highlighted exceptionally serious mismanagement.
These gestures not only challenge President Diomaye Faye, they challenge the entire people, those who fought bloodily to preserve their democracy. These people have already assumed their historic responsibility. Now it is up to President Diomaye and his government to do the same, by calling time on the game. Macky Sall must be brought before the Senegalese people to account for all these abuses committed in his name. When it comes to the misappropriation of public funds, there can be no presumption of innocence, especially when credible institutions establish these facts. Procedural errors that benefit looters must no longer serve as a refuge for impunity.
Senegal is in a state of emergency. It needs unity, justice, and a restored state. Macky Sall claims to hold Africa dear. His actions prove that he has abandoned it. The future belongs to free peoples and patriotic leaders who choose to serve rather than serve themselves.
