Senegal is celebrating. But beyond the trophy, this victory tells a story of more than just sporting success. It reveals a stance, an identity, a value deeply rooted in our collective history: Diom, Fouleu ak Fayda. A moral victory before a sporting one, it speaks to who we are when we refuse to give in.

At the heart of this historic moment stands one man: Pape Thiaw. A coach who not only led a team, but who embodied the courage to say no. When everything seemed to point to the cup remaining with the host country, when the refereeing decisions were becoming increasingly questionable, Pape Thiaw refused the unacceptable. He took a strong, deliberate, and selfless action. An act of honor.

This refusal was neither impulsive nor emotional. It stemmed from a deep conviction. And it was precisely this stance that restored strength and pride to these young lions. The context was far from neutral. Morocco, our Habibi, the host country and an influential player in African football, was operating in a naturally favorable environment. By winning under these conditions, Senegal is aware that this victory may provoke reactions within CAF. But Senegal is ready: we are a nation capable of facing challenges with composure, without fear or submission.

This ability to say no when the essential is at stake extends beyond the realm of sport. It now permeates other spheres of national life and is also reflected in Senegal's response to any external pressure. Saying no to the International Monetary Fund when its demands are incompatible with the national interest is an assertion of sovereignty. The duo of Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko embodies this firm and consistent stance: that of a country that engages in dialogue but does not submit, and that chooses unity as its strength.
