POLÉMIQUE EN SEPT LETTRES : ABSURDE !
Frankly, it was a bold move. While Fitch and Standard & Poor's juggle Senegal's ratings like difficult vowels, some sourpusses have found their national scandal: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye played... Scrabble. On the presidential plane. Yes, you read that right. Not poker, not Candy Crush, not the camel trifecta. No: Scrabble. And that would be enough to shake the Republic?
We would have liked a tasteful indignation: "Why not a giant dictation for
improve the spelling of official press releases?" or "A Sudoku competition for the communications team?" But no, we're offended because the president lines up a WHO or a XYLOPHONE between two turbulences. We pinch ourselves. If thinking of anagrams is now suspect, we'll also have to ban crosswords and confiscate chess.
Let's be serious for two minutes. A head of state deserves a break, and all the better if that break stimulates the intellect rather than a nap. In an ideal world, we should be happy: a president who prefers letters to casino chips, and who reminds us that governing is also about finding the right words in the right place.
In my professional and civic life, I have seen far more serious battles: youth employment, justice, education, access to the media, real economic challenges. And now we are exhausting ourselves trying to make Scrabble a state scandal! It's not only ridiculous, it's dangerous: by constantly fueling sterile polemics, we are diverting attention from the real struggles. The country deserves better than cardboard indignation. If this is our level of debate, then the real crisis is that of our priorities.
So yes, zero points for Sunday polemicists.
Because by constantly inflating storms in a bag of letters, we end up forgetting
The bottom line: real battles are not won on a game board, but in the lives of Senegalese people.
