Un combat pour la Republique et pour Farba [Par Abou Lo]
The political history of our young Republic has known moments of glory with great men who left their mark on their era.
From Senghor to Macky Sall, via Abdou Diouf and Abdoulaye Wade, the country has always experienced democratic and peaceful transfers of power.
Along the same lines, it must be acknowledged that Senegal has also experienced periods of political turmoil and that young and old alike have made many sacrifices to defend noble ideals.
But what is new in our country is the authoritarian turn that is taking on worrying proportions.
from our current leaders
What is happening on the political and socio-economic scene is unprecedented.
Political actors have always had disagreements of all kinds, but never in living memory have there been so many insanities, hatred, and malice gratuitously displayed in the public square.
The Pastef party, which brought to power a duo with Bassirou Diomaye Faye as President and Ousmane Sonko as Prime Minister, wasted no time in showing the world the true nature of the regime it aspires to establish in Senegal.
From the outset, it must be acknowledged that the manipulation of youth through a chimerical project was the main weapon that helped them gain power.
In effect, after the people were confronted with the fait accompli of economic failure—the invention of hidden debt and its deeply troubling social consequences, which constitute a ticking time bomb—it is especially urgent to question the functioning of our justice system and the treatment meted out to certain political opponents.
This is the case of the honorable member of parliament Farba Ngom.
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, upon his appointment, swore that Farba Ngom would be the enemy to be eliminated, otherwise how can one understand this relentless persecution of him.
In fact, Farba Ngom is still being held in prison despite the opinion of the judges of the financial prosecutor's office who decided to release him following serious challenges to the accusations of embezzlement of public funds.
While the same prosecutor's office that is keeping Farba in prison has not appealed against the release of the main defendant, Mr. Tahirou Sarr.
One cannot help but notice the executive branch's desire to settle scores with a political opponent, given that three of his brothers are still under judicial supervision in the same case.
It should be noted that he is still under threat of a second lifting of his parliamentary immunity for reasons that are as fallacious as each other.
As far as we are concerned, faced with these abuses, our duty is to engage in a principled struggle by standing up to arbitrariness and opposing it by legal and peaceful means, as recommended by the elders of Fouta, its political stronghold, who accompany us with their holy prayers.
Through words and writing, but also through just actions, all the sons and daughters of the Matam region, as well as Senegalese people who love peace and justice, will defend their deputy mayor with dignity for the respect of his rights.
The first action is an invitation to all Senegalese people to join us at the People's Resistance Committee, which is organizing a press conference on February 9, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Le Relais Hotel.
