40 ans du Dandé Léniol : Baaba Maal confirme son titre de légende populaire !
Long awaited by the general public and the international community, the celebration of four decades of success and creativity of the legendary Dandé Léniol orchestra, led by its charismatic leader, the Senegalese music star Baaba Maal, was synonymous with a true national celebration this Saturday, October 11, 2025. Emotion and jubilation were the eyewitnesses of this beautiful performance by Baaba Maal and his men in front of an enthusiastic and loyal audience who sang admirably in unison with the star.
In the presence of huge personalities from everywhere, not forgetting two beautiful African voices, namely Youssou N'Dour and the singer Sekouba Bambino from Guinea, they gave a high-level performance that lived up to expectations, never before achieved on the legendary stage of the Grand Théâtre National de Dakar. Along with his companions, Baaba Maal reconnected with his community through a very beautiful performance acclaimed by national critics. Coming from Saint-Louis, Casamance, Mali and Guinea, Baaba Maal's fans invaded the Great Hall of the Grand Théâtre with joy and emotion, paying tribute to all those who have passed away and who have walked with him, like Mansour Seck and Mbassou Niang, among other great figures of Dandé Léniol.
From his native Podor via Dakar to London, Baaba Maal has always captivated minds with his first notes of wango. With immense talent and exceptional dexterity, peppered with legendary modesty, he has made himself a true icon of the international scene. In the labor of 1985, this legendary orchestra was born in northern Senegal, giving birth to a tool of expression for the voiceless, as its name suggests: the Dandé Léniol, which means "The Voice of the People." With around a hundred concerts performed in Africa and the rest of the world, its musical notes reflect the cultural identity of Africa and its diaspora on the international scene.
Beyond his beautiful voice and his powerful, poignant speeches on stage, Baaba Maal offered a beautiful choreographic performance to his fans, who have always applauded him despite his age.
