Culture : tout sur le nouveau travail de Youssou Ndour
Singer Youssou Ndour was appointed vice-president of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) on Wednesday in Paris. The leader of Super Étoile succeeds South African Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Mexican Arturo Márquez. "Alongside Björn Ulvaeu, president of CISAC, the icon of Senegalese music will now represent the voice of creators on the international stage," reports L'Observateur.
In concrete terms, the newspaper continues, “Youssou Ndour will represent the international community of creators, thus giving visibility and prestige to their efforts to protect their rights and promote their interests.” Among his priorities, the same source adds, is addressing the challenges related to the development of artificial intelligence. “His stature as an artist and his lifelong commitment to culture will contribute to strengthening CISAC’s advocacy work for fair remuneration, transparency, and a robust framework for copyright protection worldwide,” hopes Gadi Oron, CISAC’s Director General.
This organization brings together 227 member societies from over a hundred countries. Its role, as L'Observateur points out, is notably to "protect copyright, strengthen collective management systems and ensure that authors and composers of music, audiovisual creators, writers and visual artists receive fair remuneration."
