« Judduwaat » : Kadia Sall présente son premier film
A preview screening will be held this Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Seanema cinema in the Sea Plaza in Dakar. According to a press release obtained by Seneweb, director Kadia Sall will present her first film, Judduwaat, starting at 4:30 PM. The event coincides with International Women's Day. The date also marks the director's birthday, and this edition falls during the month of Ramadan. The organizers thus describe it as a threefold symbol of artistic, personal, and spiritual significance.
According to the press release, Judduwaat, meaning "rebirth," explores the inner journey of a woman confronted with buried childhood memories and imposed silences. The release specifies that the film addresses long-suppressed wounds. The direction emphasizes "light, natural elements, and silences to accompany the path toward healing." The director offers "an intimate and profoundly human work."
Known to the public as an actress, Kadia Sall won the Best Actress award in Senegal at the 2021 Teranga Movies Awards. This marks her directorial debut. The film's presentation states that this work affirms "a committed voice, centered on dignity, memory, and transmission." Beyond the screening itself, Judduwaat opens a broader artistic cycle.
The film is the starting point for a series of short films dedicated to the "words" and "ills" associated with women. The press release cites "invisible wounds, inherited silences, intimate struggles, but also strength and rebirth." The project's initiators explain that the ambition is to open, through cinema, "lasting spaces for speech and dialogue."
