« Wade, l’homme du siècle » : le Dr Cheikh Omar Diallo revisite le parcours d’Abdoulaye Wade
A new book dedicated to Abdoulaye Wade will be published on May 23 in Dakar. Entitled "Wade, the Man of the Century," the book by Dr. Cheikh Omar Diallo retraces the political career of the former Senegalese head of state through more than two decades of opposition and time in power.

In this 225-page book, the author retraces the career of the man he presents as an important figure on the contemporary African political scene. He notably discusses the years of opposition to the single-party system, the rise to power in 2000, and the subsequent democratic transition in Senegal.
The book paints a portrait of a politician described as atypical in his exercise of power and conduct of public affairs. "Wade entered into legend while still alive," the author writes. He continues: "He was a political singularity. A free spirit, unpredictable, whose initiatives often overflowed established frameworks and borders."
The book launch will take place at the Librairie aux 4 Vents bookstore in the Mermoz district. Several chapters revisit the events that marked the final years of the liberal regime. Passages devoted to internal rivalries, political successions, and rifts within Wade's inner circle feature prominently in the narrative.
Dr. Diallo also invokes Greek mythology to illustrate certain episodes of power. He compares the former president to Chronos, "the god of time who devoured his children." In this interpretation, several former close associates appear as heirs gradually distanced from power, including Idrissa Seck, Karim Wade, Ousmane Ngom, and Souleymane Ndéné Ndiaye. The book also discusses the rise of Macky Sall, presented as the one who ultimately defeated Abdoulaye Wade in the political arena.
“Wade reigned through the ballot box and perished through the ballot box,” the author summarizes. Through stories, personal accounts, and reflections on several major political events, the book offers an immersion into the inner workings of power and the trajectory of a former president who left a lasting mark on Senegalese political life.
