Après un nouvel incident, l’ambassadeur d’Israël à Dakar réagit : « Ce qui s’est passé ne représente pas le Sénégal »
After being "chased away" from Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in May 2025, the Israeli ambassador to Dakar faced another incident this Wednesday, November 19, 2025, during a meeting on interfaith dialogue organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Dakar. Participants rose to protest as soon as the ambassador began to speak, which brought the event to a halt. Responding to the incident, Israeli Ambassador Yuval Waks stated that he was "fully aware that what happened does not represent Senegal or Senegalese culture."
Recalling that "the relationship between Senegal and the State of Israel dates back to the 1960s," the diplomat spoke of a partnership "built on sustainability." In this regard, he affirmed that he maintains "very good relations with the Senegalese government, particularly with its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic representatives." Despite "this political climate," Mr. Waks stated that discussions with the Senegalese authorities focus on "how the State of Israel and Senegal can better cooperate."
With Dakar, he explains, "we are aware of the situation," but he believes it is possible to "focus at the same time on areas of cooperation that are of common interest." "That doesn't mean we aren't aware of the situation, but there are also areas of cooperation we can build on," he insists.
Addressing the context of the conflict in the Middle East, Yuval Waks reiterated that his country is "not insensitive to the devastation and suffering of [their] Palestinian neighbors" and emphasized that the State of Israel "is working for peace." He cited, in particular, the agreements concluded with "Jordan" and "Egypt" as evidence of a consistent diplomatic commitment. Furthermore, the diplomat clarified that "this war that we are all following in the media is not a war between religions; it is not a war between Islam and Jews."

Les Palestiniens n'ont pas d'armes... Il y'a de fantômes autour de la Palestine qui utilisent ce pays comme leur bouclier de combat... Quand vous comprendrez ce qui se passe réellement vous aurez moins de haine pour les juifs !
J'ai toujours voulu comprendre " cette guerre" ! J'allais au service culturel de l'ambassade d'Israël au Sénégal pour le documenter et mieux comprendre la culture hébraïque !
