Livre blanc sur le massacre de Thiaroye : Le chef de la diplomatie française réagit
French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot has responded to recent developments surrounding the Camp Thiaroye massacre, reaffirming France's commitment to reckoning with its history. This statement comes as a new White Paper on the 1944 tragedy was submitted to the Senegalese president.
The minister was in Lagos for the second edition of the Création Africa International Forum on cultural and creative industries when he was questioned by the press on this sensitive memorial issue.
The issue was rekindled by the submission of a White Paper to Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Thursday, October 16. This report reportedly details gray areas surrounding the 1944 massacre, in which African riflemen demanding their pay were shot dead by the French army.
In his speech, Mr. Barrot emphasized France's availability: "On December 1st, at the request of the President, I went to Thiaroye on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the massacre, to put the right words, those that the President of the Republic had chosen, on what happened at that time. Why? Because France does not turn its eyes away from its own history and has engaged with Senegal, but also with a certain number of other African countries, in a work of remembrance."
The minister confirmed that the French authorities would review the report and stand ready to cooperate with Dakar: "We will review this report and stand ready to cooperate with Senegal, the Senegalese authorities know this, so that the research can shed light on what happened that day," he said.
This declaration reinforces the memorial work initiated between France and several African countries, following the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the massacre held last year in Dakar.

Les parents de ces tirailleurs ne sont interésses que par une chose fondamentale : retrouver les corps de leurs parents assassinés par la France.
Que les autorités françaises nous disent clairement ou sont enterrés les corps,ou qu elles laissent les chercheurs accéder à toutes les archives permettant de connaître toutes la verité.
Peut être même que sur le lieu où se trouvent les fosses communes,les français y ont construit un service public ,comme un larché,une école.... pour camoufler leurs atrocités,semblables à celles qu ils encouragent avec Netanyau.
