ONU : Macky Sall fera sans le Sénégal et les pays de l’UA hostiles à sa candidature
Disavowed by his own country, Senegal, and rejected by some twenty African nations, Macky Sall has not given up on his UN dream. The former president of Senegal has maintained his candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations.
He knows that he does not necessarily need the approval of his country of origin or of all the nations of the AU.
Egypt and Liberia are no longer opposed to his candidacy.
A statement from its communications department even announces the removal of Egypt and Senegal from the list of states that have interrupted the silent procedure.
So, there are currently "13 countries that have maintained their objections and 5 (others) their requests for extension of the procedure deadline", according to the note received by AFP.
If we take this statement at face value, 18 countries are currently theoretically opposed to Macky Sall's candidacy. This represents no more than a third of the 55 AU member states. The former Senegalese president has therefore decided to maintain his candidacy.
