Commandant Aminata Barro : 1ère femme Chef de corps de l'armée sénégalaise

Commander Aminata Barro made military history in Senegal by becoming the country's first female commanding officer. Appointed in July 2025, she took command of the Technical and Logistics Support at the Thiès Air Force Training Base.

Competence-based leadership

Between overseeing maintenance, training pilots, and ensuring unwavering operational rigor, she embodies a leadership style where competence alone dictates rank. As the first woman to command a unit within the Senegalese Armed Forces, her mission encompasses overseeing the operational maintenance of aircraft as well as providing technical training.

Breaking the glass ceiling

This historic appointment shatters the glass ceiling and embodies the excellence of female leadership within the military. While Commander Barro is a pioneer at this level of responsibility, other women hold strategic command positions. This is notably the case of Captain Mame Rokhaya Lo, the army's first female pilot, who currently commands the Air and Air Transport Gendarmerie Legion.

Il y a des femmes braves comme des hommes ! Donc à celles-ci , il faut leur mettre à leur place. Mais par contre pour d'autres ce sont guèrté thiaf par-ci , du ataya par-là, diotaye ak ré .
