Énergie et électricité : Les prévisions pour 2026

In his address to the nation on December 31, 2025, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye presented the ambitious energy program for 2026, aimed at strengthening access to electricity and extending energy coverage throughout the national territory. The year 2026 will be marked by a decisive acceleration of electrification: "3,637 additional localities will be connected to the electricity grid."

"This connection will benefit 113,654 households, or approximately 1,235,755 people, significantly strengthening access to electricity in urban and rural areas."

According to the President, this effort is part of a broader commitment to reducing territorial inequalities and promoting the economic and social inclusion of populations long deprived of electricity. The government is also continuing its efforts to diversify the energy mix, relying on sustainable and renewable solutions, while modernizing existing infrastructure. These actions aim to ensure energy security, stabilize the grid, and support industrial and agricultural development.

Connectivity and digital inclusion

Access to electricity is also linked to digital connectivity. The president announced the deployment of satellite antennas, enabling nearly one million Senegalese to access the internet free of charge by 2026. This initiative will promote education, health, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion in rural and peri-urban areas. Through this plan, Senegal aims to improve daily living conditions, support economic production and employment, enhance the attractiveness of its regions for public and private investment, and open new opportunities for young people, the driving force behind national transformation.

According to President Diomaye Faye, these measures reflect a long-term strategic vision, where electricity and energy become essential levers for inclusive growth, energy sovereignty and sustainable development.
