« Mon rêve : une licence en ingénierie informatique » : Pape Ndantago Mbaye regarde vers l’avenir
Pape Ndantago Mbaye, a young Senegalese high school graduate with upper limb disabilities, winner of the Gaïndé Prize for his exceptional academic achievements, has been in Israel since November 19, 2025, for specialized medical treatment. Accompanied by his sister, he is receiving care at the hospital while continuing his studies. In this interview with Seneweb, Pape shares his experience, his ambitions, and his message of hope.
Pope, why are you in Israel today?
I've been in Israel since November 19th for medical treatment. I met with the doctors as soon as I arrived, and treatment has already begun. They want to avoid any risks, so I started the initial protocol while we wait for further instructions. In three weeks, we'll do more tests to see how things are progressing. The medical teams are really welcoming and very friendly.
How was this trip organized?
I thank God for giving me this opportunity. It all started with Diabel Seck, who put me in touch with the Israeli ambassador. The ambassador told me to come if Israeli medicine could do anything for me. I am accompanied here by my sister, Mame, who assists me daily. I am staying right at the hospital.
Your academic success has moved the Senegalese people. What were the keys to this success?
I earned my Baccalaureate S2 with honors. I completed all my exams on my feet, without ever asking for accommodations or special treatment. At the Ngane high school in Kaolack, I fought just like everyone else. My teachers know I worked hard, always with determination. This Baccalaureate isn't just an academic achievement; it's a life lesson: despite my disability, I always believed in myself.
What is your daily life like at the hospital?
"Outside of my consultations, I'm learning the Quran, the Khassaides, and I'm also working on my English. And little by little, I'm even starting to understand a few words of Hebrew."
What message would you like to send to the Senegalese people?
Please pray for me, I need it. And above all, think of other young people suffering from serious illnesses. I was lucky enough to come here for treatment, but many don't have that opportunity. I also suffered a lot at school, but I never gave up. I always had goals and the will to persevere despite the difficulties.
What are your plans after treatment?
My ambition is to obtain a professional degree in computer engineering. For now, my health remains the priority, but once it's stable, we'll see how to organize the rest of my studies, perhaps here or in Senegal.
