DÉPÊCHES ENVIRONNEMENT LA UNE Prévention des inondations : le nouveau plan quinquennal “très avancé dans sa structuration” (ministre)
The five-year flood prevention and management plan in Senegal, currently being developed, is well advanced in its structure, declared the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, on Tuesday.
“We are already well ahead in its structuring,” said Mr. Dièye, referring to the process of developing this new five-year plan.
The Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation spoke to journalists during the first session of the steering committee of the second phase of the Rainwater Management and Climate Change Adaptation Project (PROGEP II), implemented by the Municipal Development Agency (ADM) and its partners.
“Through this plan, the aim is to implement a new policy for rainwater management and sanitation in Senegal for the next five years within the framework of a new sectoral policy letter,” he explained in the presence of the Director General of ADM, Majmouth Diop, and the administrative authorities of the Dakar region.
"We are currently developing this new five-year flood management plan, taking into account a ten-year master plan that runs until 2034," the minister said.
Cheikh Tidiane Dièye added that this new five-year plan will also be supported by the National Rainwater Management Strategy included in Vision Senegal 2050.
The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who visited Thiaroye-sur-Mer last Saturday after heavy rains caused flooding in certain districts of this Dakar commune, indicated that the new five-year flood prevention and management plan would soon be presented to the Senegalese people.
Officials from the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation participated in the first session of the PROGEP II steering committee.
