A clandestine abortion network operating between Dakar and Saly for over a year has been dismantled by the Saly Portudal investigation unit. Three people were arrested: a medical representative, a fake doctor, and a drug supplier. The trio appeared before the Mbour High Court for establishing a lucrative clandestine network providing abortions.
The trafficking was carried out according to a precise division of roles, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing: SB Ndiaye, a medical representative, acted as an intermediary. She illegally obtained abortifacient products from the supplier O. Ndiaye, a street vendor at the "Keur Serigne Bi" market in Dakar.
The latter resold the boxes for between 12,000 and 15,000 CFA francs. These products were then given to a fake doctor in Saly, F. Kane, who charged up to 120,000 CFA francs per procedure. The medical representative received a commission on each transaction, details the daily newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM).
The police trap
The network was dismantled thanks to an undercover operation, according to the same source. A female police officer posed as a patient to secure an appointment. During the transaction, F. Kane made the imprudent decision to contact the medical representative to inquire about the dosage, thus confirming the network's existence and leading to the immediate arrest of the three individuals involved.
In court, the defendants admitted to the charges, describing a system where profit took precedence over the patients' health. The prosecutor, denouncing the practices as "terrifying," requested a two-year prison sentence and a fine of 100,000 CFA francs for each defendant. The verdict is scheduled for January 6, according to the GFM headline.
