Horreur à Yeumbeul : le boutiquier noie le fils de son voisin pour se...
Accused of coldly drowning Ahmad Seydi, the 3-year-old son of his neighbor, MC Thiam, alias Mouhamed, appeared before the Pikine-Guédiawaye Criminal Court seven years after the events. On March 1, 2019, the child's body was found in a plastic bag on Malika beach; the autopsy concluded that he had been drowned, according to L'Observateur.
A cold-blooded crime against a backdrop of mystical paranoia
The investigation revealed a chilling modus operandi, according to the same source. The shopkeeper methodically lured the toddler into his back room by offering him a bag of curdled milk. Taking advantage of the quiet of prayer time, he submerged the victim's head in a 50 cm deep water tank, maintaining the pressure until death ensued.
The motive put forward during the investigation is terrifying: convinced that the child's father was casting spells on him to harm his business and cause him migraines, the shopkeeper decided to take revenge. "I wanted to get revenge on his father," he confessed to investigators.
A macabre staging
After the crime, the accused transported the body by bicycle to Malika beach, concealing it in a plastic bag among the casuarina trees. A jogger made the gruesome discovery the following day.
In court, MC Thiam attempted to plead amnesia: "I don't remember anything... I thought I saw the child in the bucket when I was performing my ablutions," he stammered, as reported by the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias. This line of defense was dismissed by the prosecutor, who emphasized the clear premeditation and the accused's attempt to flee to Mauritania. Denouncing a "chronic insensitivity," the prosecutor requested a sentence of life imprisonment with hard labor.
The defense, for its part, pleaded insanity and requested leniency in the application of the law. The verdict is expected on April 7, L'Observateur adds.
