Kaolack : Un chauffeur de "Cheikhou Charifou" en état d'ivresse arrêté par la police pour conduite dangereuse
A drunk driver caused panic on the Kaolack national road before being arrested by the men of Divisional Commissioner Souleymane Ba. The man, known for similar behavior, was brought before the public prosecutor on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Erratic driving alerts the police
On Saturday, October 19, 2025, at 5:05 p.m., officers from the Kaolack Central Police Station arrested a driver whose vehicle was zigzagging dangerously on the national road. It was a Toyota vehicle, commonly known as "Cheikhou Charifou."
During the traffic stop, the police quickly identified the driver as AMThiam, a 39-year-old passing through Kaolack. The man emitted a strong odor of alcohol and was speaking incoherently, confirming his advanced state of intoxication.
A danger to road traffic
Faced with this worrying situation, the officers immediately ordered the driver to get out of his vehicle and be taken to the police station. A thorough search of the passenger compartment was conducted, but no illicit or suspicious items were discovered.
Although the driver was not carrying any passengers at the time of his arrest, his clearly irresponsible driving constituted a proven danger both to himself and to other road users.
According to information gathered by Seneweb, the man is accustomed to this type of behavior.
AMThiam was immediately taken into custody while he sobered up. Once sober, he was notified that he was being held in police custody for drunk driving and dangerous driving endangering his life and that of other road users.
Following the investigation, the accused was brought before the Kaolack High Court yesterday, Monday, October 20. He will have to answer for his actions in court.
